Lyse Drouaine is an artist and a textile designer. She captures and perceives the beauty of the world through the prism of light, which she explores and reinterprets ad infinitum.
In 2017, she set up her first studio at the Cité Internationale de la Tapisserie in Aubusson, the home of traditional textile craftsmanship and excellence. In 2019, she founded Luxdawn, based at Lumen, Cité de la Lumière, the new European Lighting Hub in Lyon.
A graduate of the École Supérieure des Arts Appliqués Duperré, Lyse specialises in traditional weaving techniques handed down by exceptional weavers and artisans, as well as working with professionals in the luxury goods, textile and light conception industries.
In her quest to reveal the spatiality of each space, Lyse Drouaine weaves in close collaboration with her clients, associates and project partners, whether in the creation, development, prototyping or manufacturing stages.
Clients include architects, collectors and art lovers, as well as prestigious brands and institutions.
Simone Prouvé, Bernard Battu, Maïté Tanguy, Sophie Mallebranche, Stéphanie Buttier, Dominique Doulain and Jacqueline Bernard have all contributed to shaping her vision of the profession. Since 2012, EXCEL RAY Audio Images - André Bernasson, and now Jean-Baptiste Henriot - have been her main partners in this project.
"I am interested in light as a primary and immediate source of aesthetic emotions that create well-being. It influences our relationship with our environment, but also with time. The association of this medium with the textile fibre opens up a new expression of the infinite poetry of the material, in an aesthetic search for refined purity" L.D.
"Have not you yourselves sensed a difference in the light that suffuses such a room, a rare tranquility not found in ordinary light? Have you never felt a sort of fear in the face of the ageless, a fear that in that room you might lose all consciousness of the passage of time […]?"
